Alan
first started working at United Parcel Service in 1979, employed
there until becoming a Business Agent at Local 340 in 2001
relocating in the Portland area. Served for many years as
a Shop Steward policing the UPS agreement, also during this
time assisted in Local 340’s Presque Isle office prior
to being brought on as a Business Agent. Served for many
years as Local 340’s Education Coordinator. Was hired
at Local 340 by the late President James E. Carson and mentored
by him for ten years in the skills that are necessary to
be an effective Business Agent.
One
of Alan’s lifelong
passions has been diversity. Alan has worked hard to ensure
equity, fairness, and respect in the workplace eradicating
the obstacles and barriers that discourage the human spirit.
Because of his efforts Alan has been appointed Human Rights
Commission Coordinator for Local 340. Is a current Trustee
of Local 340 and of The Teamsters’ New England
Council of Bakery Drivers. Has completed many seminars and
trainings including, The Teamsters Leadership Academy in Washington
D.C., Bargaining Strategies, Discrimination Law, FMLA, Labor
Law, Labor Arbitration, Diversity, Organizing, Union Counselor,
Ergonomics, and Joint Council 10 Teaching Techniques. Has been
involved in organizing numerous groups and doing first contracts,
is responsible for representing many Public Sector and Private
Sector members including all Hostess members in the State of
Maine. |
