340 Women's Conference
TEAMSTERS WOMEN COMMITTEE MINUTES AND AGENDA
The women’s committee has been meeting every month for a year.
They’ve had:
A raffle for an Easter ham (won by Betty Hilton)
A golf tournament
A raffle for two Thanksgiving baskets (won by Dan Robitaille and Tim
Boynton)
They’ve been putting together “new member kits” which
are sent out to all new Teamster members
They’ve made a monetary donation to a benefit fund for a member
who was in a severe auto accident.
Bought a raffle from the Joint Council 10 (we did not win)
They helped with the unloading of USPS trucks during their food drive.

340 sent the members of the Women’s Committee to the 2008
Teamster Women’s Conference in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The conference,
which is dedicated to empowering Teamster women through education and
networking, included meetings, workshops and presentations, with a focus
on political action and organizing. Contact us if you are interested

The
Teamsters Women’s
conference is looking to sponsor three (3) One hundred dollar ($100)
gifts to help three families Teamster Families in need this holiday
season. Please submit a short story of a family that you recommend
with a brief background as to why you would like to nominate them.
The
Women’s committee will also be hosting a “Turkey Basket
Raffle” to benefit Teamsters Local 340 Women’s Committee.
The raffle will include “Turkey and some Fixens” One ticket
for $1.00 or Six tickets for $5.00. Please contact Sylvia Hebert at Local
340 if you would like to purchase tickets.
The Golf Tournament was a hugh success.

The
Teamsters Women’s
conference recently made a $200 donation to Member James Nightingale
of Kittery Public Works, who was seriously injured in a traffic accident
on August 21, 2008 while returning home from work.
Anyone
interested in joining the Women’s conference are welcome
to attend our meetings that are held the Saturday before the Portland
General Membership Meeting at 10:00 AM the South Portland Union Hall.
